Accuracy of the Qibsat :
Thanks to the latest GPS technology, the Qibsat is much more accurate than a regular Qibla compass.
By knowing your precise GPS location, the prayer times and the Qibla direction given by the Qibsat are much more accurate than any other handheld device. For the prayer times, you can set the Fiqh as either Shafi or Hanafi. You can also choose which methodology you prefer; Muslim World League is the default. When finding Qibla, you can choose between the directions of shortest distance and constant compass. The Qibsat also warns you of disturbances in your local magnetic field; it also has a laser pointer with a 5m range.

Great Circle vs Rhumb Line
Whilst determining Qibla, the curvature of the Earth poses a problem: the shortest line over the globe (the Great Circle) does not have a constant bearing whereas a line of constant bearing (the Rhumb Line) will be longer and in a different compass direction.
You can select either method for your Qibsat.
Magnetic interference?
Like any compass, the accuracy of the Qibsat can be greatly affected by metallic structures and electrical devices which interfere with the local
magnetic field. The Qibsat has a patented intelligent compass which warns you if it detects magnetic disturbance, allowing you to move to a location with a purer magnetic field.

Intelligent Compass?
If the Qibsat detects disturbance in the magnetic field, it still functions but the segments on the screen will flash to warn you. This function relies on the compass being accurately calibrated for your location.
If you change location, the Qibsat may detect that the ambient magnetic field has changed and flash “CAL” to request that you re-calibrate the compass. This is a simple procedure that involves rotating the compass through two complete turns, in time with the segments.

Qibsat support
The apparent simplicity of the Qibsat is deceptive. Its precision poses questions that we are not usually asked:
- What is my precise location?
- Which direction do I wish to use: shortest distance or constant compass?
- Is there disturbance in my local magnetic field?
By getting a GPS fix and choosing your settings, your Qibsat will answer these questions. Others can be answered on these pages.
